A warm welcome · London & online
Thoughtful, gently paced psychological care with Dr Chia Barsen — Counselling Psychologist (HCPC) and UKCP Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist. For adults seeking support with trauma, PTSD, and related difficulties.
Email enquiries are treated confidentially. This is not a crisis service.
A considered therapeutic relationship
Many people arrive feeling stuck with memories, patterns, or a nervous system that will not settle. Therapy with me is collaborative and paced carefully: we make sense of what has happened, reduce the hold of distressing experiences, and build practical ways of relating to yourself and others.
I draw on EMDR Europe-accredited practice alongside integrative psychotherapy — including psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and narrative approaches — and modalities such as Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills where helpful.
A soft starting place
You do not need a perfect description of what is wrong. These are some of the reasons adults reach out.
Memories, flashbacks or a body that will not settle — even when you know you are safe now.
Who I work with →Worry, panic, heaviness or a fog that makes everyday life feel harder than it should.
Who I work with →Repeating dynamics with partners, family or yourself that leave you feeling stuck or alone.

A little quiet
Therapy does not need to rush. Like a soft pause in the day, sessions are paced so your nervous system can find steadier ground — gently, and at a tempo that feels safe enough.
Getting started
A clear, unhurried path from first email to ongoing therapy — so you know what to expect.
A short note is enough — what you are hoping for, and whether online video suits you.
I reply warmly about availability, fees and whether we might be a good match.
We meet online by video, get to know each other, and begin at a pace that feels safe enough.
Sessions continue collaboratively — EMDR, psychotherapy or a blend — reviewed as we go.

Where we meet →Common questions
A few calm answers before you write. If something else is on your mind, email is always welcome.
The first session is a gentle getting-to-know-you. We talk about what brings you, what you hope for, and anything that helps you feel safe enough in the room. There is no pressure to tell everything at once — we go at a pace that feels manageable.
For many people, yes. Secure video can feel just as containing as in-person work, and often makes it easier to attend consistently from a familiar space. We can talk through what helps you feel settled online before we begin.
Regular sessions are usually 60 minutes (£100). Extended EMDR appointments are 90 minutes (£150). Recognised insurers include AXA Health, Aviva and Vitality — full details are on the fees page.
It depends on what you bring and what you hope for. Some people benefit from a focused course of EMDR or DIT; others prefer longer integrative work. We review together as we go so the length stays purposeful rather than open-ended by default.
