Selected works

All photographs on this page were taken by me, Dr Chia Barsen.

A quiet collection. Each photograph is shown alone — titled and given room — the way a print deserves to be seen. High-resolution downloads are free.

  • Featured

Golden sunset over calm sea with silhouettes of a paddleboarder and swimmers

    Golden path

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

The sun lays a bright path across still water. Silhouettes hold the light — a paddleboarder, a few swimmers — without claiming the frame. Heat haze softens the horizon into gold. Evening as a corridor of reflection rather than a postcard. The kind of coastal minute that asks only that you stay in the water a little longer.

High-contrast black and white view looking up into gnarled leafless tree branches against bright sky

    Canopy reach

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Looking straight up, the canopy becomes a dark map. Gnarled limbs rake a bright winter sky into lace. Bark keeps its weather; twigs keep their patience. Monochrome strips the forest to structure and light. Architecture without a building — only the decision to stop and tip the camera toward the roof of the world.

  • From the collection

Seagull flying beneath parallel power lines across a textured cloudy blue sky

    Lines of flight

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Wires draw parallel diagonals through a mackerel sky. A single gull finds its own course beneath them. Geometry and weather sharing the square — infrastructure as drawing, flight as the soft reply. Cool blue, soft cloud grain, one small white mark that keeps the frame human.

Black and white seagull in flight against a textured sky bisected by a diagonal wire

    Divided sky

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

One thin wire cuts the brightness in two. A gull banks through the open half, wings catching the pale grain of cloud. High contrast turns sky into charcoal paper. Organic motion against a single hard line — enough geometry, and nothing more. Looking up until the ordinary cable becomes a horizon.

Low-angle view of a weathered wooden groyne post with beach huts and a green cliff beyond under dramatic sky

    Timber horizon

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

From the sand the groyne becomes a cliff of its own. Warm cracked timber holds algae in its grain; beyond the rim, beach huts and a green hill sit under a wide, moving sky. Perspective does the elevation — ordinary coastal wood made monumental by looking low. Texture first; the shore as architecture.

Black and white photograph of a cormorant on a fence post in calm water framed by overhanging branches

    Solitary perch

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A dark bird keeps watch on a lone post. Water holds its reflection in soft ripples; overhanging leaves frame the upper air. Shore grass closes the lower edge like a curtain. Stillness as composition — one life, one vertical, and the bright field of the lake between. Monochrome keeps the quiet exact.

Yellow-green leaf covered in clear rain droplets on dark wet ground

    After rain

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A single leaf holds the rain. Droplets rest like tiny lenses on yellow-green veins, each one catching soft light against dark wet ground. Nothing arranged — only the pause after weather, when an ordinary leaf becomes something to look at carefully. Texture does the work: water, vein, and the grain of the surface beneath. A quiet macro for anyone who collects stillness.

  • From the collection

Looking up from the base of a mossy tree trunk into a pale winter canopy

    Looking up

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Looking up from the base of the trunk, the forest becomes a map of lines. Bark holds moss in its grooves; bare branches pull the eye into a pale winter sky. Golden light slips in from the edges, the kind that only lasts a few minutes. The camera sits low enough that height becomes the subject. Nothing staged — just texture, patience, and the decision to stop walking. A quiet vertical that rewards anyone willing to tip their head back.

Storm light breaking over a coastal bay with rays on the sea

    Coastal light

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

The cloud breaks and the sea catches fire for a minute. Rays drop onto the water like something decided. On the shore, dark rock holds the edge of the frame. Weather writes itself; the camera only waits. Blue deepens where the light has not yet reached. A coastal breath held between storm and clearing. The kind of minute collectors recognise later as rare.

  • From the collection

Black and white reflection of bare tree branches in still water

    Tree reflection

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Look down and the forest turns upside down. Bark and branch become ink on bright water. A few bubbles break the mirror, just enough to remind you it is liquid. The surface does the drawing; the trees only lend their lines. Soft light keeps the contrast clean without shouting. A quiet study — almost calligraphy — for anyone who prefers looking twice. Stillness as composition.

Minimalist leaf print and twig on textured grey ground

    Leaf impression

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Someone left a leaf behind, or the ground kept the memory of one. A thin stem curves away like a thought unfinished. Grey on grey, almost nothing — and somehow enough. Texture carries the whole frame when colour steps aside. The kind of small thing that asks you to slow down. Minimal without emptiness; presence without noise. A collector’s pause on ordinary ground.

Abstract black and white swan reflection on bright water

    Swan reflection

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A neck rises from white water — or is it only the reflection speaking? Texture instead of feathers, shadow instead of detail. The bird becomes a shape you almost recognise. Abstraction arrives without forcing the point. Bright water does the heavy lifting; dark form keeps the mystery. Fine art that arrived by accident, if you stand still. The sort of image that changes with a second look.

  • From the collection

Silhouetted winter tree and a bird flying through a blue gap in clouds

    Break in the clouds

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Winter trees hold the left edge like a dark lace. Above them, cloud opens into a small blue window — and a single bird claims it. One heartbeat of colour in a grey sky. The day almost closed; this is the crack of light. Silhouette against weather, nothing more required. Scale stays human because of that one flying mark. A quiet drama written entirely in sky.

  • From the collection

Seagull in flight above a weathered utility pole against textured blue sky

    Gull and wire

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A gull cuts the upper air; a worn pole anchors the bottom. Between them, sky — grainy, blue fading to cream. Ordinary wires become a composition. Utility and flight sharing the same vertical. Soft weather keeps the palette restrained. Sometimes the quietest frames are the ones that feel most deliberate. Coastal ordinary, elevated by looking carefully.

  • From the collection

Monochrome modern building edge meeting stormy sky with a bird in flight

    Bird and façade

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Metal and cloud share a diagonal. The façade reflects weather; a small bird keeps its own course. Architecture and sky in a single breath. High contrast, little noise — the city as a graphic. Monochrome strips away distraction and leaves edge and tone. Motion as a comma against hard geometry. Urban quiet for a collector’s wall.

Duck lifting from water framed by dark branches in black and white

    Takeoff

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Wings open, water breaks, the reflection doubles the moment. Branches frame the flight like a proscenium. Black and white keeps the drama clean. One second of lift — then the lake is still again. Splash and silhouette do the storytelling. Nature’s theatre without a stage manager. A brief verb caught mid-air.

  • From the collection

Abstract white swan-like reflection on dark rippled water

    White on dark

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A pale column rises through black water — bird, light, or only ripple. A tip of orange catches the eye. Abstraction without forcing it. Dark water becomes a field for a single luminous mark. Texture replaces explanation. The sort of image that rewards a second look and a third. Quiet luxury in monochrome with one warm note.

  • From the collection

Duck swimming through reflections of bare tree branches on bright water

    Among the branches

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Branches lace the water; a duck threads the white between them. Almost a drawing, then the bird insists it is real. Soft browns against ink-black lines. Pattern and life sharing the same surface. Reflection turns the canopy into a net you can swim through. A small life moving through a larger design. Gentle, precise, and unhurried.

Portrait of an older man in a woven hat and layered white clothing, caught in warm, intimate light

    The Quiet Witness

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

The portrait holds on a hand, a woven hat, and the small turn of a face toward the light. White fabric gathers the warmth around him, while the background falls away into shadow. There is a pause in the gesture, as if the picture has arrived between one thought and the next. Texture does the speaking: straw, cloth, skin, and the soft grain of the frame. It feels observed rather than arranged, a human presence given room to remain private. Intimacy without intrusion. A witness kept quiet on purpose.

  • From the collection

Deep purple leaves holding a single spherical water droplet, with small gold flowers at the edge

    Plum droplet

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A single drop rests on plum-dark foliage as if the leaf had been waiting for it. Under the water the veins sharpen; around it the burgundy softens into shadow. Tiny gold flowers crowd the corner, almost an afterthought. Nothing moves except the light inside the sphere. Macro work of this kind asks for patience more than spectacle. The frame keeps its quiet — jewel tone, silver glint, and the brief geometry of weather on a leaf.

Crepuscular rays breaking through cloud over a dark blue sea with foam in the foreground

    Sea and rays

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

From the waterline the horizon opens like a stage curtain. Cloud holds the sun; rays fan upward into clear blue. Foam in the near field keeps the eye honest — this is weather, not theatre. Distant figures mark the scale without claiming the frame. The sea stays deep indigo while the light writes itself in silver. A coastal minute that arrives rarely and leaves without announcing when it will return.

Weathered stone statue in profile with the blurred Eiffel Tower behind, black and white

    Stone and tower

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Stone takes the near focus; iron dissolves behind it. The statue’s profile holds the light along cheek and drapery, grain of weather written into the face. Beyond, the tower softens into lattice and suggestion. Paris reduced to texture and silhouette. Monochrome keeps the conversation between ages — carved stillness against engineered height. The photograph does not explain the city; it lets two materials share a breath.

Shaft of sunlight breaking through storm clouds over green stone-walled fields and hills

    Fell light

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Storm holds the upper frame; a single break lets the fell catch fire. Stone walls draw thin lines through the green. A row of dark trees keeps time along the meadow. Gold finds one slope and leaves the rest in shadow. Countryside weather writing itself in chiaroscuro. The kind of light that lasts minutes and stays in the mind for years.

Bare winter tree silhouetted against an orange and blue dusk sky with a walker and dog on the horizon

    Dusk companions

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

The tree claims most of the sky — bare, gnarled, absolute. Horizon holds a walker and a dog, small enough to measure the scale. Colour runs from navy into orange without apology. Silhouette does the storytelling; detail would only interrupt. Evening as companionship and solitude at once. A quiet frame where the land is larger than anyone who crosses it.

Weathered wooden post with tangled wire mesh reflected in still water, bird reflection at the edge, black and white

    Wire and mirror

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A post stands in grey water, wire tangled at its crown like abandoned script. The reflection doubles the vertical; a bird appears only as ink below. Texture against calm — wood, mesh, ripple. Nothing ornamental, everything found. Black and white strips the scene to line and tone. The sort of quiet that rewards standing still longer than feels reasonable.

Crescent moon seen through a soft web of out-of-focus tree branches, monochrome

    Veiled crescent

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Branches blur into a veil; the moon stays sharp behind them. Craters hold their own quiet detail against a flat grey sky. Night reduced to calligraphy and silver. The intervening wood softens everything human and keeps the celestial exact. A study in layers — near chaos, far clarity. Looking up until the noise of the day thins out.

Looking up through a dark metal lattice structure framing a crescent moon in deep blue twilight

    Steel crescent

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Lattice divides the blue hour into triangles and traps. Inside one of those frames, a thin crescent hangs like a held breath. Industrial silhouette against cerulean — weight against lightness. The moon needs no more room than a gap between beams. Graphic, spare, almost architectural. Evening infrastructure and the oldest light sharing a square.

Overhead view of white sea foam patterning dark water above a weathered wooden groyne and shingle

    Tide and timber

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Foam writes lace across the upper water; below it, timber holds the shore in place. Rivulets of white run down wet sand like brief roots. The groyne is salt-dark and patient. Pattern against permanence — tide inventing, wood enduring. Shot from above, the coast becomes almost abstract. A collector’s shoreline: texture first, narrative second.

Looking up a gnarled leafless tree trunk into cloudy sky with a bird in flight, black and white

    Skeletal reach

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

From the base the trunk rises like a weathered column. Branches rake the cloud into dark calligraphy. A single bird crosses the lower air, brief life against long wood. Monochrome keeps the drama structural. Endurance without sentiment — bark, knot, empty sky. Looking up until the tree feels like architecture.

Long covered urban walkway with columns and reflective floor creating a surreal double figure toward bright light, black and white

    Mirrored passage

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Columns march into glare; the floor answers with a perfect double. A walker moves toward the light; another figure hangs inverted in the reflection. Architecture becomes a corridor of twins. High contrast turns glass, stone, and water into one graphic. The city as surreal geometry rather than street. Quiet, exact, and slightly impossible.

Impressionistic reflection of red flowers and green foliage rippling in pale water

    Liquid garden

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Red blooms dissolve into flame-shaped echoes on pale water. Stems wander as dark threads through the ripple. Green banks the lower frame in soft waves. Nothing is sharp; everything is colour in motion. A garden seen only as its liquid twin. Impressionism arrived by weather, not brush.

Silhouetted thorny branches across a soft peach and grey dusk sky with a small bird in flight

    Thorns at dusk

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Thorns cut black lines across a washed peach sky. Negative space does most of the speaking. A small bird holds the lower air between branches. Defence and softness in one frame — spike against glow. Minimal, almost ink-drawn. Dusk reduced to silhouette and breath.

Dark wet stone on sand with dendritic tide-carved channels branching upward like a tree

    Tide veins

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

One dark stone anchors the wet sand. From it the tide has drawn a branching tree of channels. Water already gone; the drawing remains. Indigo against muted tan — spare, exact. Nature’s geometry without intending to be clever. A shoreline manuscript that the next wave will edit.

Wind-swept marram grass on golden sand dunes under a deep blue sky with white cloud and a distant bird

    Gilded dune

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Marram leans hard to the right; the wind is still in the grass. Sand below holds soft ripples and a half-buried fence. Above, azure deepens into piled white cloud. A lone bird marks the scale of the sky. Coastal gold against cool blue — simple palette, full weather. The dune as a ridge of light and motion held still.

Moody black-and-white sky with a TV aerial, a perched bird, and a distant airplane silhouette

    Signals above

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Cloud fills the square like weather made of charcoal and paper. An aerial cuts a small geometry into the brightness; a bird claims its tip. Far left, an aircraft hangs as a dark comma. Human signals under a sky that ignores them. Grain keeps the tone film-like and quiet. Looking up until the ordinary roof-edge becomes a firmament study.

    Mast and gull

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

A heavy mast divides the light; a wire runs beside it like a drawn hair. One gull glides through the lower left. Two small birds keep still on the line. Sky fades from azure into pale gold. Negative space does the composition. Coastal air held between structure and flight.

Top-down black-and-white view of bare feet on submerged tiles with bright caustic light patterns in the water

    Tiled light

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Tiles try to stay square; water refuses. Caustics scatter white across the grid like brief stars. Two feet enter at the edge — presence without portrait. Geometry and shimmer in the same breath. Monochrome turns a shallow pool into abstraction. Standing still long enough for light to write itself.

Looking up a wooden utility pole with wires radiating outward against cloudy sky and a contrail, black and white

    Woven sky

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

Wires radiate from the pole head like a loom turned skyward. Wood grain and climbing irons keep the centre honest. A contrail cuts one clean diagonal through cloud. Infrastructure as drawing — line, hub, open air. Ordinary utility made graphic by looking straight up. Connection without narrative, only pattern.

Black-and-white close study of a swan’s white plumage and its dark serpentine reflection in rippled water

    Serpentine echo

    © Dr Chia Barsen 2026

White plumage holds the lower third in soft layers of feather. Above it the neck returns as a dark S on grey water. Ripple warps the echo into something almost other. Bird and double in quiet dialogue. High contrast, little distraction. A collector’s abstract that still admits it began as a swan.
